Yurt Info:
Situated about 10 miles from the Homer harbor, on the south-west side of Tutka Point, the Kayak Beach yurt is nestled in the alders approx. 250 yards from the beach. It gets some day breeze protection from the Herring Islands and has a nice view of Hesketh Island. You can find decent water to anchor your skiff, should you decide to bring your own boat.
Suggested Trips:
Kayak Beach, as the name implies, provides a great place to spend time kayaking around Hesketh Island, into some of the protected water in Sadie Cove, or around the corner into Tutka Bay and the Herring Islands (be aware of the weather and tides). Watch for the abundant sea otters and occasional harbor seal, porpoise or whale. It also provides you with easy access to the North (bay) end of the Grace Ridge trail. Hike up to the summit, (approx. 3 miles, elevation gain approx. 3000 ft) and look for ptarmigan, mountain goats, marmot and black bear, among other birds and beasts.
