Alaska Yurt Rental Description of Glacier spit:
Glacier spit yurt is located at the campground at the trailhead of the Glacier Trail. If you are facing the Glacier spit the site is about in the middle, look for the trailhead triangular marker. There is access to hiking to alpine from the yurt and to the Glacier as well as beach combing on the spit and around to Rustys Lagoon. Fishing for salmon is good off the spit. The yurt site is a short paddle or boat ride to Halibut Cove with the access to art studios and restaurants.
Glacier Spit yurt has a long gravel beach that looks out to the Bay. The anchorage is not sheltered and it gets some surf action during the day breeze from approx. noon to 8 pm. You may want to plan your arrival around the day breeze.
The yurt is set up with 3 full size (sleep 2 friends) bunks set up around a central wood stove. We leave an ax and hand saw in the yurt and a one-burner propane camp stove and a pot to boil water.
There is a pulley system in place to hoist your food bag or cooler up off the ground and away from wildlife. We ask that you cook on the fire ring at the beach to keep food smells out of the yurt.
There is basic safety equipment in the yurt. The yurt cover fabric is fire resistant as is the liner. We put a fire extinguisher in the yurt. There is a first aid kit and basic safety equipment, flares and noisemakers. There is an outhouse on site, please burn or pack out the paper. Dont put it in the hole.
You will need to bring bedding and cooking utensils as well as water. There is not a reliable water source at this site. All fresh water in the park needs to be boiled for 15 minutes to be free of giarrdia.
Check in as at 1pm and check out is 11 am. The yurts are maintained once a week in the summer. Please sweep up and leave dry firewood inside for the next group.
Thank-you for visiting Glacier Spit yurt, we hope you will enjoy your stay!
