Humpy Creek Yurt Rental

Alaska Yurt Rental Description of Humpy Creek:
Humpy Creek yurt is located in Kachemak Bay State Park in the East end of the park at the mouth of Humpy Creek. The yurt is located at the campground to the left of the creek when facing the shore from the beach. . You cannot see it from the water. The entry to Humpy creek is shallow a long way out. Its best to go in at high tide and you should bring hip waders or an inflatable or expect to get wet.(Ask your taxi if they can get you in without wading, some can) The yurt is about 150- 200 yards from the beach. If you have your own boat, anchor way out and check the bottom where you leave the boat in case it goes dry. Take the trail straight back from the Park Service registration signpost to the left of the creek.Follow the signs from there.
The yurt will be furnished with a wood stove and 3 sleeping platforms - each with a full size mattress. There is a table and one- burner water- heating stove. (Always turn off propane bottle closure as well as the regulator on stove) We also leave basic safety equipment including a first aid kit, flares and noisemakers (good for curious bears). Don't depend on the equipment to be there entirely. We have not had a problem with vandalism but we leave the yurts unlocked for emergency uses. Bring the minimum you need for safe camping in remote areas. Make sure to be prepared to cook on a fire and bring something to cut wood with just in case.
We will leave a dipping utensil and a water jug for getting water along with a small pot for boiling it. It is important that you boil all fresh water in the park for 15 minutes before drinking. The water source is the Humpy Creek. We recommend that you avoid the hassle and bring your own water since some water sources will dry up over the summer.Humpy Creek has a lot of dead fish up stream in the later summer months.
We will leave an axe and a hand saw in the yurt. We also cut firewood for the yurts when we maintain them every week or so. We ask that you leave dry kindling wood in the yurt when you leave. Please give the place a sweep and leave it nice for the next group.
We recommend that you keep the cooking activity in the fire pit and do not bring food into the yurt. We provide a bear resistant storage container for your food. Please don't leave garbage in the storage container and wipe up any spills with the provided wipes. We have not had a problem with the wildlife thus far. If you keep the food smells to a minimum around the yurt there shouldn't be a problem. The bears in the park are black bears mostly. They are not accustomed to people and there have been no garbage bears reported yet. We recommend using flares to scare off any curious bears and/ or the noisemakers. There are a lot of bears at Humpy Creek.
Please be very careful with fire. The park has a lot of standing beetle kill. Keep cooking fires in the fire pit. If there is a forest fire go to the beach and someone will come for you. Please call us when you return to town if there is a fire.
We provide toilet paper for the outhouse. . Please either burn it or pack it out with you. Please don't put paper in the hole. Bring back-up paper just in case. We leave the yurts open for safety use. They do lock however. Be extra careful not to lock yourself out of the yurt. If you do - the fix is easy. There is a zipper in the yurt panel just to the right of the door. Unzip the wall and you will be able to reach into the yurt and unlock the door.
There is cell phone reception but there is not a lot of traffic in this end of the park. Its a very remote site although there are hikers on the trails often.
We sincerely hope you enjoy your stay in the yurt. Nomad Shelter is a private permitted concession in the park. We hope that you will abide by the park rules. We will leave a copy of them in the yurts.
Let us know your thoughts and suggestions. We look forward to improving the yurt camping experience with your input. There is a journal for that purpose in the yurt.

Thanks again,
Lee and Jess Tenhoff,
Nomad Shelter
