Haystack Beach Yurt Rental

Alaska Yurt Rental Description of Haystack Beach:
Haystack Beach is located directly across from the Homer spit. The Beach is the second beach to the right of the mouth of the Woznisenski River. There is a big grass covered rock about 50 yards out from the mouth of the river that is called Haystack Rock. If you face the beach from there and look to your right you see a large rock outcropping and a ridge running back from it that creates a barrier between beaches. The yurt is located on the beach on the other side of the rock out cropping.
Haystack beach is a fine black sand beach , very secluded. The yurt is located on the ridge on the far right hand side of the beach. There is a 20 foot bank that needs to be climbed to get to it and its about 25 yards back from the edge of the bank. The yurt has a nice view of the Bay and yet is secluded and private.
Haystack beach provides opportunity to explore the beach and the river mouth ecosystems. You can follow the banks of the river and access the major part of the trail system from there. There is quite a bit of level ground hiking from this site.
Fishing is good off shore, we have found there to be good halibut fishing just beyond the Haystack Rock. The river provides trout fishing and salmon can be taken from shore.
The yurt is set up with 3 full size (sleeps 2 friends) bunks set up around a central wood stove. We leave an axe and hand saw in the yurt and a one-burner propane camp stove and a pot to boil water.
There is a bear resistant food storage container on site. Please do not leave garbage in the food storage container and wipe up any spills with the provided wipes. We ask that you cook on the fire ring at the beach to keep food smells out of the yurt. The yurts do lock, which means that it is possible to accidentally lock yourself out of the yurt.

There is basic safety equipment in the yurt. The yurt cover fabric is fire resistant as is the liner. We put a fire extinguisher in the yurt. There is a first aid kit and basic safety equipment, flares and noisemakers.
You will need to bring bedding and cooking utensils as well as water. There is not a reliable water source at this site and at certain times of the year the fresh water source is only the river, which is glacial and cloudy. All fresh water in the park needs to be boiled for 15 minutes to be free of giarrdia.
Check in as at 1pm and check out is 11 am. The yurts are maintained once a week in the summer. Please sweep up and leave dry firewood inside for the next group.
We hope you enjoy your stay at Haystack Beach! Please remember to bring fresh water.
