Alaska Yurt Rentals Halibut Lagoon yurt:
To go to the Lagoon go past Halibut Cove about a mile southeast, the entrance to Halibut Lagoon follows the west side of the Lagoon along the hill. The yurt is about 3/4 of the way back into the Lagoon on the right. There is a reflective state camping sign. The yurt is approx. 50 yards from high tide and you should be able to see it from the water. At low tide the site is accessible but it has a lot of current and so its not advisable. There is no trail access from this site. You need to boat across the lagoon to the trail head.
The yurt is outfitted with 3 beds with mattresses, a wood stove and a small table with some safety equipment such as first aid kit and fire extinguishers. There is a one burner propane stove in the yurt for boiling water. There is a pot to boil water but you will need to bring your own cooking equipment. We do request that you do your cooking on the campfire on the beach. This is to keep food smells away from the yurt and not draw attention from wildlife.
There is bucket on a pulley for keeping food safe located next to the sign on the beach. Please do not leave garbage in the food storage container, be aware that the continued use of the yurts requires safe vigilant participation from all of us. Do what you can to keep the site very clean for the safety of us all.
There have been no problems with the black bears yet, lets keep it that way. Brown bears are seldom seen in the park. If there is a nuisance bear please report it to the park officials.
If there is a forest fire please go directly to the beach and call us and or the water taxi. We will work with them to make sure all of our yurt customers are out of the park. Please keep fires in the fire ring on the beach and in the wood stove, no where else.
We will do our best to keep the site stocked with wood for the wood stove. The cut fire wood is not to be used for beach fires. You are on your own there, we provide an ax and a saw. The firewood is cut weekly so if its all used in a bonfire it could be out till the next cutting day. Please be considerate of the next customers and leave dry fire stater in the yurt.
The yurts do lock so it is possible to lock yourself out. If this happens, the fix is easy. Unzip the panel flap directly to the right of the door, then, reach in and unlock the yurt. Please avoid locking the yurt there are no keys.
Check in and out is at 12pm . The yurts are maintained once a week in the summer. If a maintenance crew arrives during your stay please be patient, they will finish as quickly as possible.
Please sweep up after your stay and leave the yurt at least as clean as you have found it. Our experience is that yurt customers are a cut above the norm...we are consistently grateful for the creative additions, art and enhancements that are made to the yurt sites. We are a small private company with a concession to provide rentals in the park. We ask that you follow all park rules as posted in the yurt and above all enjoy your stay. Thanks for your visit.
